History of Villa Necchi Campiglio

The villa was once the residence of the Necchi sisters, who donated it to the FAI in 2008, hoping they would protect and restore it. The property was inaugurated and made open to the public in 2008. Necchi sisters belonged to a wealthy family and had a manufacturing business. They wanted a luxurious house in the center of Milan

The project was assigned to one of the Milanese architects famous for his modern approach. The palace served as the social gathering hub for politicians and reputable families of that time. Like other buildings in Italy, the villa was affected by World War II, but it wasn’t damaged much.

Later, Piero Castellini handled the villa’s restoration project and raised six million euros to make some notable changes in the building, including the installation of stone paving, new furnishing, and changes in the exterior and interior structure. The villa was turned into a home museum facility. Today, it serves as a major tourist attraction, particularly for people interested in exploring 20th-century rationalist architecture.
