Visit Bergen, the official tourism organisation for Bergen, runs 1 tourist information centre in the city: the Tourist Information on Torget, in the Mathallen building next to the Fish Market. Its staff give free advice, hand out brochures for Bergen and Fjord Norway and book sightseeing, fjord tours and attraction tickets, and visitors can leave luggage there for the day. Many tours start right outside the door. For bus and light rail tickets, the customer service centre of Skyss, the public transport authority of Vestland county, is listed below as well.

Opening hours: From 1 September and through the autumn, daily 09:00 to 16:00
Staff give free advice and brochures, book fjord tours and sightseeing, and store luggage for the day for a fee.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 11:00 to 17:00; closed on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays

National and local holidays in Bergen
Norway sets its public holidays by law, and they shape a visit to Bergen more than the calendar suggests. The Public Holidays Act names 10 holidays alongside ordinary Sundays, and a separate act makes 1 May and 17 May days of celebration on a par with Sundays, which gives 12 dates in 2026. Easter Sunday and Whit Sunday are listed in the act even though they always fall on a Sunday, and in 2026 Constitution Day on 17 May falls on a Sunday too. On these days, and on ordinary Sundays, the law keeps shops that sell to consumers closed, with exceptions such as small grocery shops, petrol stations and shops that mainly sell local crafts and souvenirs.

Local holidays in Bergen 2026
Bergen adds no local holidays to the national calendar: Norway fixes its public holidays nationally by law, so the 12 dates above are the ones that apply in the city. Christmas Eve and Palm Sunday, which some calendars show, are not public holidays under the act, although shops must close at 16:00 on Christmas Eve, as they do on Easter Eve and Whitsun Eve.
The published hours of the Tourist Information on Torget do not mention these dates, so it is worth checking with it before planning a visit around a holiday.
