Tourist office Cusco
The Municipalidad Provincial del Cusco, whose Gerencia de Turismo y Cultura is responsible for tourism promotion and development in the province, publishes no walk-in tourist information office. In the city, 3 IPERÚ points run by PromPerú, the national tourism promotion commission, help visitors in person: one on the Plaza de Armas, one in the Capilla Loreto on a corner of the plaza and one at Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. IPERÚ gives free information on attractions, routes, destinations and tourism companies.

Cusco's historic centre sits at 3,400 metres, and the things to see in Cusco begin at the Mercado Central de San Pedro, then climb through the Plaza de Armas, Qorikancha and San Blas to the zigzag walls of Sacsayhuamán. Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley and Laguna Humantay are covered as day trips from the city, and the Twelve-Angled Stone, the Cristo Blanco viewpoint and the market itself cost nothing to visit.
The guide also explains how the altitude shapes a first day in Cusco and why May to September brings the driest weather.
Keep the city and national holiday calendar in mind
On a public holiday, offices, museums and transport in Cusco may close or switch to holiday hours. Peru has 16 national public holidays in 2026 and 16 in 2027. Holy Thursday and Good Friday move with Easter, falling on 2 and 3 April in 2026 and on 25 and 26 March in 2027, while the other 14 dates are the same every year. Easter Sunday itself, on 5 April 2026 and 28 March 2027, is not a national holiday.
