The official tourist information points in Faro are run by the Região de Turismo do Algarve (RTA), the regional tourism body, and there are 2 of them: the Faro Tourist Office on Rua da Misericórdia and the Gago Coutinho Airport Tourist Office at Faro Airport. The Câmara Municipal de Faro lists the same 2 offices on its tourism portal.
According to the RTA, its tourist offices provide tourist information, sell regional products and hand out promotional material on places to visit, food and events. In 2015 the Câmara Municipal de Faro opened the refurbished Rua da Misericórdia office in the same building as the Arco da Vila Interpretive Centre.

The Câmara Municipal de Faro names 7 September as the city's feriado municipal and marks it with official ceremonies, including a flag-raising and a formal session of the municipality; in 2026 it falls on a Monday. Under article 235 of the Labour Code the municipal holiday is an optional holiday rather than a statutory one, as is Carnival Tuesday, which fell on 17 February in 2026. Azores Day on 1 June and Madeira Day on 1 July belong to the autonomous regions and do not apply in Faro.
