Tourist office New York City
New York City Tourism + Conventions, the official destination marketing organisation for the five boroughs, keeps no walk-in tourist information office of its own. Its own venue listing marks the Official NYC Information Center at Macy's Herald Square, on West 34th Street, as out of business, and it publishes its visitor information online, with a downloadable map. In person, 5 points run by other bodies can help: 2 Central Park Conservancy points at Columbus Circle and the Dairy, the New York State Welcome Center at the Javits Center, open during shows, and the Port Authority information centres at JFK and LaGuardia airports.

The New York City guide on Tourist Office sets out how to visit New York City in one day, on a route from Bethesda Terrace and Fountain in Central Park past Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Bryant Park and Grand Central Terminal to the Empire State Building, the High Line and Chelsea Market.
It then ranks the big sights, from the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National September 11 Memorial, and picks out what costs nothing, such as the Staten Island Ferry and the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building of the New York Public Library, plus the shows and games coming up.
Public holidays in New York City to plan around
On a public holiday, offices, museums and transport in New York City may close or switch to holiday hours. Three official calendars set the days. The 11 federal holidays under 5 U.S.C. 6103 apply to federal offices. The New York State Department of Civil Service lists the legal holidays of the State's General Construction Law for 2026, which add Lincoln's Birthday on 12 February and Election Day on 3 November and keep Independence Day on Saturday 4 July; Flag Day is a legal holiday too, but state employees do not observe it. The City of New York's 2026 Holiday and Pay Calendar follows the federal dates, with Independence Day observed on 3 July, adds Election Day, and lists Lincoln's Birthday only as a floating holiday for City employees hired before 1 July 2004.
