The Potsdam guide on Tourist Office gathers the top things to do in Potsdam into a one-day route that starts at the Alter Markt and the Nikolaikirche, crosses the red-brick Dutch Quarter and ends in Sanssouci Park, at Sanssouci Palace and the New Palace.
It also picks out the landmarks and viewpoints that cost nothing to visit, from the New Garden around Cecilienhof Palace to the Glienicke Bridge and the timber houses of Alexandrowka, and keeps a list of the shows and other events coming up in the city.
Keep the city and national holiday calendar in mind
On public holidays, tourist information points, museums, shops and public transport in Potsdam may close or switch to holiday hours. Germany leaves most public holidays to its states: only 3 October, the Day of German Unity, is set by federal law, and the holiday laws of the states protect nine days across the whole country. Brandenburg's holiday act, which applies in its capital Potsdam, lists 12 statutory holidays: those nine plus Easter Sunday, Whit Sunday and Reformation Day on 31 October, which falls on a Saturday in 2026. The act sets the same days for the whole state and names no holiday for Potsdam alone.
