Tourist office Rio de Janeiro
Riotur, the municipal tourism company of Rio de Janeiro (Empresa de Turismo do Município do Rio de Janeiro), runs 4 tourist information points: the Centro Integrado de Atendimento ao Turista (CIAT) in Copacabana and three Centros de Atendimento ao Turista (CATs) at Aeroporto Internacional Galeão, Aeroporto Santos Dumont and Rodoviária Novo Rio, the bus station. All four give in-person information on the city's tourist products and services, and the CIAT serves visitors in Portuguese and English. Tijuca National Park, which ICMBio manages, has a visitor centre of its own.

Not run by Riotur: the visitor centre belongs to Tijuca National Park, which ICMBio manages.
It holds a permanent exhibition, "Uma Floresta na Metrópole", and gives information on leisure options in the park.

The first day in the guide to what to visit in Rio de Janeiro rides the Corcovado rack railway up to Christ the Redeemer and the cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain, then takes in Praia Vermelha, Copacabana Beach, Arpoador and Ipanema Beach. Four to five days cover the main sights.
The Escadaria Selarón, the Maracanã, the Museum of Tomorrow, the Botanical Garden, Tijuca National Park and Santa Teresa each have a profile with access details, and the Arcos da Lapa and Parque Lage join Arpoador and Praia Vermelha as places that are free to visit.
National and local holidays in Rio de Janeiro
On a public holiday, offices, museums and transport in Rio de Janeiro may close or switch to holiday hours. Brazil has 10 national holidays in both 2026 and 2027, and Rio de Janeiro adds its own. Saint Sebastian's Day on 20 January is the holiday of the city's patron saint, while Carnival Tuesday, Saint George's Day on 23 April and, since 2026, Corpus Christi are holidays across the State of Rio de Janeiro.
Carnival Monday on 16 February 2026 and Ash Wednesday on 18 February 2026 are pontos facultativos, optional working days rather than holidays. Good Friday, Carnival Tuesday and Corpus Christi move with Easter, which falls on 5 April 2026 and on 28 March 2027.
