This Amsterdam tourist map marks 11 top sights and a 7.6 km walking route through the centre, from the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam to the Vondelpark. Nine sit on the route and two lie outside the city. It is free to view, print and download.

The PDF is the same map on three A4 pages. Page 1 holds the map with the numbered legend, how to get around, a note on the sources and the licence. Page 2 describes sights 1 to 7 with photo, text, address and access. Page 3 adds sights 8 to 11, with distance and transport for the 2 outside the city, and a short guide to the neighbourhoods. Start of a 7.6 km (4.7 miles) route, about 1 h 35 on foot without the visits, in the Plantage, a few minutes' walk from Waterlooplein metro station (51, 53, 54). Founded in 1638 as a physic garden, the Hortus is ticketed and open daily. The first leg, 1.4 km, heads north-west into the Old Centre.
On the Oudezijds Voorburgwal, at the edge of the red light district, steep stairs climb from the restored merchant's rooms to a galleried church built in the 1660s, with its altar, organ and confessional. Paid entry, tickets online or at the door. Walk west to Dam Square, 0.6 km.
The square sits on the dam across the Amstel that gave the city its name. The Royal Palace faces the Nieuwe Kerk, and the white stone National Monument stands at the eastern end. Free and open at any hour; the palace and the church charge their own admission. The route heads west to the Westermarkt, 0.8 km.
On the Prinsengracht by the Westermarkt, the house where Anne Frank, her family and four other people hid for just over two years keeps the secret annex behind the bookcase. Timed entry, sold online only and never at the door. The route turns south through the Canal Ring to the Begijnhof, 1.2 km.
Behind a plain door off the Spui, almshouses ring a lawn where the Beguines lived from the Middle Ages, and number 34, het Houten Huis, is one of two wooden houses left in the centre. Free by day; residents live here. Next comes the longest leg, 1.4 km and 17 min south to the Rijksmuseum.
Pierre Cuypers' red brick museum of 1885 on Museumplein still lets cyclists ride through the passage beneath it. The Gallery of Honour builds towards Rembrandt's Night Watch. Timed entry, and every visitor books a start time. The Heineken Experience is 0.6 km south-east along the Stadhouderskade.
Heineken's oldest brewery stopped brewing in 1988 and now runs as a self-guided route past the copper kettles and the stables to a rooftop bar. Timed entry, over 18s only, with ID checked on arrival. Vijzelgracht metro station (52) is close by. The route doubles back west to the Van Gogh Museum, 0.8 km.
On Museumplein, the main building follows Van Gogh's career from the dark peasant scenes of his Dutch years to the sunflowers, with temporary exhibitions in the curved wing behind it. Timed entry, tickets online only. The last leg runs north-west to the Vondelpark, 0.7 km.
The route ends at the main entrance on the Stadhouderskade. Laid out in 1865 and protected as a national monument, the park spreads ponds, lawns and cycle paths across Oud-Zuid, and its open air theatre stages a summer programme that the city lists as free. Free, with no ticket desk or closing time.
The centre is walkable: the 9 stops of the route cover 7.6 km, about 1 h 35 on foot without the visits. The longest leg is the 1.4 km from the Begijnhof to the Rijksmuseum, about 17 minutes.
By metro, Waterlooplein (51, 53, 54) serves the Hortus Botanicus, Nieuwmarkt (51, 53, 54) Our Lord in the Attic and Rokin (52) Dam Square and the Begijnhof; Vijzelgracht (52) is the closest station to the Heineken Experience. Trams 1, 7 and 19 stop at Rijksmuseum, and trams 2, 5 and 24 at Museumplein, by the Van Gogh Museum. No tram runs past the Anne Frank House while the Raadhuisstraat and the Westermarkt are rebuilt: it is a 10-minute walk from Dam Square.

Four of the numbered sights sell timed entry online: the Rijksmuseum, the Heineken Experience and the Van Gogh Museum on the walking route, and Keukenhof, open only in spring.
