Marked in orange on the map: 36 smaller sights worth a detour, 34 of them close to the centre. The PDF lists all of them with addresses.
The PDF is the same map on four A4 pages. Page 1 holds the map of the centre with the numbered legend, how to get around and the licence. Pages 2 and 3 list the 10 sights with a photo, a short text and the full address, including the bus for Piazzale Michelangelo. Start of a 4.3 km (2.7 miles) route, about 55 min on foot, on Piazza del Duomo. The nave is free to enter Monday to Saturday, while the dome, bell tower and baptistery need one of the Opera's passes. The first leg, 0.9 km north to the Accademia, is the longest.
At Via Ricasoli 58-60, by Piazza San Marco. Entry is timed and booking is strongly advised; Michelangelo's David stands under its tribune at the end of the corridor of the unfinished Prisoners. The route then heads back south-west to San Lorenzo.
On Piazza di Madonna degli Aldobrandini, behind San Lorenzo, entered from its own door at the back of the church. Entry is ticketed, as part of the Bargello museum group. Walk south through the centre to Piazza della Signoria.
A free square, open at all hours, with Ammannati's Neptune fountain, Giambologna's Cosimo I on horseback and a copy of the David. The open arcade at the south corner keeps Renaissance statues in the open air. Palazzo Vecchio stands on the same square.
At Piazza della Signoria 1, the town hall where the city council still meets in part of the building. Entry is ticketed, with the tower climb sold separately. The Uffizi starts right beside it, on Piazzale degli Uffizi.
At Piazzale degli Uffizi 6. Entry is timed, the gallery is closed on Mondays and booking is strongly advised. The Vasari Corridor is entered from inside the gallery. Walk down to the Arno and along the river to Ponte Vecchio.
Free and open at all hours, with goldsmiths' shops behind wooden shutters and a long view along the Arno from the open midpoint. The Vasari Corridor runs above the shops. Cross the river into the Oltrarno for the next stop.
Cosimo I's covered passage of 1565 runs from Palazzo Vecchio through the Uffizi and over Ponte Vecchio to Pitti; the pin marks its course in the Oltrarno. Visits start inside the Uffizi: timed entry, Tuesday to Sunday, on a booked slot with a combined Uffizi ticket.
The route ends at Piazza de' Pitti 1. The palace and the Boboli Gardens behind it are ticketed, closed on Mondays and sold separately or together; the Palatine Gallery hangs Raphael and Titian. Piazzale Michelangelo, the tenth sight, is a bus ride away.
The centre is walkable: the 9 stops on the route cover 4.3 km, about 55 min of walking without the visits, and the longest leg is the 0.9 km from Florence Cathedral (Duomo) to the Accademia Gallery.
Florence has no metro. Autolinee Toscane runs the city buses, and lines C1 to C4 reach into the historic centre. The T1 and T2 trams share the Alamanni and Valfonda stops at Santa Maria Novella station; the T1 links Villa Costanza and Careggi, and the T2 runs from the airport to San Marco Università, near Piazza San Marco and the Accademia Gallery.
