The numbers below match the pins on the map, the PDF and the video. There are no cars, metro or buses inside the walls, so everything is seen on foot: the first 8 sights sit on the walking route, up the Grande Rue to the abbey and back along the ramparts. The last one, the Chapelle Saint-Aubert, stands outside the walls at the foot of the rock, is reached only at low tide and is under restoration.

Start of a 1.1 km (0.7 miles) route, about 20 min of walking with the climb and without the visits, at the outer gate where the shuttle and the footbridge arrive. The 16th-century gate is free to pass at any hour. Go on through the Boulevard and King's gates to the Grande Rue.
The main street of the village climbs from the King's Gate towards the abbey between shops and old inns. It is free and open at any hour, like the rest of the village. Follow it uphill to the parish church.
The parish church of the village, dedicated to Saint Peter and owned by the commune, stands partway up the Grande Rue, wedged among the houses. Entry is free. The Logis Tiphaine is a few steps further on, up a stair off the street.
The 14th-century house of Bertrand du Guesclin and his wife Tiphaine de Raguenel, furnished as the home of a medieval knight, with his armour. A private museum, ticketed separately from the abbey. Climb on up the steps of the Grand Degré to the abbey entrance.
The self-guided visit starts at the guardroom, climbs the Grand Degré to the west terrace and runs through the abbey church. The Centre des monuments nationaux allows 45 minutes to 1 h 30. Ticketed, last entry one hour before closing, closed on 1 January, 1 May and 25 December.
The Gothic buildings on the north side of the rock, raised in the early 13th century on three levels: the cloister and the refectory on top, the guests' hall and the scriptorium in the middle, the almonry and the cellar at the bottom. Included in the abbey ticket. From the exit, join the rampart walk.
The rampart walk follows the north, east and south sides of the walls, past the North Tower and down to the King's Gate, with the wide views of the bay that the Grande Rue lacks. Free and open at any hour. Leave by the gates and walk west to the Fanils gate.
A round artillery tower of the early 16th century, built by Gabriel du Puy to guard the western side of the Mont, its turret later used as a lighthouse. It stands in the Fanils enclosure at the south-west foot of the rock and is free to see from outside. The shuttle stop is back past the footbridge entrance.
The Mont is visited on foot: there is no metro and no bus inside the walls, and cars stay on the mainland. The 8 stops on the route cover 1.1 km, about 20 min of walking with the climb and without the visits, and the longest leg is the 0.3 km from the Remparts to the Tour Gabriel. The abbey visit adds 45 minutes to 1 h 30.
From the visitor car parks, the free shuttle Le Passeur runs every 5 to 15 minutes to a stop about 350 m from the village gate; on foot the walk takes about 45 minutes. Bus line 2 runs every day from Pontorson - Mont-Saint-Michel station to the Mont, and Keolis Armor coaches from Rennes and Saint-Malo stop by the tourist information centre, next to the shuttle.
Sights outside the walking route:
At high tide the sands below the walls and the path to the chapel are cut off, and walking out into the bay is only safe with a certified guide.
