The Pisa guide on Tourist Office gathers the top things to visit in Pisa in one place, starting with a first day on foot that runs from Piazza dei Miracoli through the Orto Botanico, Piazza dei Cavalieri and Borgo Stretto to Palazzo Blu, Santa Maria della Spina and the Tuttomondo mural.
It then adds sights beyond that route, such as the Camposanto Monumentale, the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo and the Mura di Pisa, and picks out what costs nothing, from the Lungarni to Giardino Scotto and the Domus Mazziniana.
Keep the city and national holiday calendar in mind
On public holidays in Pisa, offices, museums and transport may close or switch to holiday hours. Italy keeps 12 national public holidays in 2026 and 12 in 2027, and Pisa adds 1 local day for its patron saint. Every Sunday is also a festive day under Italian law, including Easter Sunday on 5 April, and two of the 12 dates, 4 October and 1 November, fall on a Sunday in 2026. The 4 October holiday for Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of Italy, is new: Law 151/2025 created it and it applies from 1 January 2026.
The local day is the feast of San Ranieri, patron saint of Pisa, on 17 June. The Palio di San Ranieri, a rowing race between four boats that represent the old city quarters, takes place on the Arno that afternoon, the day after the Luminara, when more than 100,000 lamps light the riverbanks.
