Getting to the sights on the Sintra tourist map
The town is walkable but steep. The 7 stops of the route cover 6.9 km, about 2 h 00 on foot without the visits, and climb steeply from the centre to Pena. The longest leg is the 1.8 km from Villa Sassetti to the Moorish Castle, about 36 minutes.
Scotturb runs two bus routes for visitors from Sintra station. Bus 434 climbs to the Moorish Castle and the Pena National Palace, with a stop at Casa Biester, and returns through the historic centre. Bus 435 serves the Sintra National Palace, Quinta da Regaleira and Monserrate Palace.
From Lisbon, CP trains on the Sintra line leave from Rossio, Entrecampos and Oriente. Sintra station is 10 to 15 minutes on foot from the historic centre.
Sights outside the walking route:
- MU.SA - Sintra Museum of the Arts: a short walk from Sintra station, 1.0 km north-east
- Miradouro de Santa Eufémia: up the Calçada de Santa Eufémia, on the hilltop south-east of Pena, 1.3 km south
- Monserrate Palace: Scotturb bus 435 or Carris Metropolitana bus 1253, 2.6 km west
