The Câmara Municipal de Sintra calls 29 June the feriado municipal and closes the Festas do Município with the Dia do Município ceremony at São Marcos that morning, at the end of a programme of fairs, parades and concerts that runs from 17 to 29 June across the parishes. Nationally the municipal day counts as an optional holiday rather than a statutory one, alongside Carnival Tuesday. Azores Day on 1 June and Madeira Day on 1 July belong to the autonomous regions and do not apply in Sintra. Of the three municipal offices, only the one at Cabo da Roca publishes closing days, Christmas Day and New Year Day.
