Letters run west to east, from Positano (A) to Vietri sul Mare (N); a dashed box frames the town map.
A. Positano. The town of the map above, rising in pastel tiers from Spiaggia Grande.
B. Praiano. Next town east, known for sunsets, majolica shrines and the cove of Marina di Praia.
C. Agerola. Plateau town outside the 13 comuni; the Path of the Gods leaves its hamlet of Bomerano.
D. Furore. Called the village that is not there, its houses scattered up the slope.
E. Conca dei Marini. Former fishing village holding the Emerald Grotto and, by tradition, the first Santa Rosa sfogliatella.
F. Amalfi. Once a maritime republic, it gave the coast its name; see the Amalfi tourist map and the Amalfi tourist attractions.
G. Atrani. Italy's smallest comune by area, in a cove a short walk east of Amalfi.
H. Scala. Faces Ravello from a ridge above Amalfi; tradition calls it the coast's oldest town.
I. Ravello. Villa Rufolo, which inspired Wagner in 1880, and the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone.
J. Minori. Below Ravello, with its Basilica of Santa Trofimena and a name for handmade pasta.
K. Maiori. Close to a kilometre of sand, the coast's longest beach.
L. Tramonti. Inland, 13 hamlets across the Lattari Mountains and a long line of pizza makers.
M. Cetara. A tuna fleet and colatura di alici, an anchovy sauce aged in wooden casks.
N. Vietri sul Mare. Next to Salerno, the town of hand-painted ceramics.
Two sights and two footpaths
- Emerald Grotto, Conca dei Marini: boats glide into a sea cave lit green by hidden sunlight; a lift drops from the SS163.
- Furore Fjord: the coast road crosses the gorge on a high arched bridge above a tiny beach.
- Path of the Gods: CAI path 327 from Bomerano to Nocelle, about 5.3 km and 2 hours; SITA bus to Bomerano via Amalfi.
- Path of the Lemons: lanes and steps among lemon terraces from Maiori over to Minori, about 1.8 km as drawn.
Ferries and destinations beyond the map
Ferry lines, drawn schematically, leave Spiaggia Grande east for Amalfi and Salerno and, in season, west for Capri, Sorrento and Naples.
